Private Pilot Certification
A private pilot certificate is for those who want to fly as a hobby. Whether you have your own plane or will be renting one, a PPL (private pilot license) allows you to fly for personal travel and business if it is your business. You cannot be hired or compensated for flying with a private pilot certification.
Private Pilot Certification Requirements:
Be at least 17 years old
Pass the FAA medical exam
Have at least 40 flight hours, with at least 20 hours of instruction and 10 hours of solo flight
Pass written, oral, and practical flight tests
Commercial Pilot Certification
The biggest difference between a private pilot certification and a commercial pilot certification is that a commercial certification allows you to be paid to fly an aircraft. This can range from simply being contracted to drive for a company up to being a pilot for a large airline.
Commercial Pilot Certification Requirements:
Have a private pilot’s license
Be at least 18 years old
Keep up to date on the FAA medical exam
Have 150 flight hours
Pass written, oral, and practical flight tests
